Mr. Gavin Green serves as the Associate Director of Bands and Director of Percussion for the Ozark School District. A native of the Arkansas River Valley, he is a graduate of Fort Smith Southside High School. He earned his Bachelor of Music Education – Instrumental from the University of Arkansas–Fort Smith, graduating Magna Cum Laude. In Ozark, he works with students across grades 6–12, building a unified vertical curriculum that supports consistent musical growth and development across all levels.
During his time at UAFS, Gavin performed with numerous ensembles, including Wind Ensemble, Athletic Band, Percussion Ensemble, Jazz and Rock Lab, Orchestra, Jazz Catz (vocal jazz), and the Leonis Chamber Singers. His diverse performance background reflects a passion for music across a wide range of musical styles and performance settings.
Gavin has taught musicians across Arkansas and Oklahoma in grades 6–12. Prior to joining the Ozark School District, he served as Percussion Coordinator at Trinity Catholic School and Southside High School, where his students consistently earned Superior ratings at Solo & Ensemble contests. Through the Arkansas River Valley Percussion Academy, he maintains a private percussion studio, with many students earning placements in All-Region and All-State Bands. Multiple students have earned scholarships through college auditions, while others have gone on to perform with DCI and WGI ensembles. Under his direction, the Ozark High School Percussion Ensemble was invited to perform at the 2027 University of Arkansas Day of Percussion, recognizing the ensemble's continued musical growth and achievement.
Beyond the classroom, Gavin is the founder and director of the Arkansas River Valley Percussion Academy, one of the region's only organizations dedicated exclusively to percussion education. Through the academy, he hosts the annual Fort Smith Drumline Camp, where students in grades 4–12 build strong fundamental drum technique while developing confidence, teamwork, and a lifelong enthusiasm for percussion.
In addition to his work as an educator, Gavin is a nationally recognized composer and arranger, creating music for schools and organizations across the United States. His compositions have been featured in marching bands, percussion ensembles, pageants, and competitive cheerleading programs nationwide, including significant work for Varsity Spirit and the National Cheerleaders Association.
Gavin is a proud artist endorser of Grover Pro Percussion.
